USA – A complement of Clay Paky Stage Zoom 1200 and Alpha Spot HPE 700 fixtures were selected for the CD and DVD recording of Christian singer Israel Houghton’s latest album, “Jesus at the Center,” which hits stores August 14.  The multi Grammy Award-winning Houghton, whose cross-cultural style of Christian music fuses elements from gospel, jazz and rock, performed at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, where the singer is also a worship leader.

Matt Moreland of Wave Productions was lighting designer and director for the project, which reflected the diversity of Houghton’s musical style.  “The look of the show was sometimes very rock ’n roll, sometimes dramatic and moody, sometimes very high energy.  It really ran the gamut as did the music from Latin to rap to a more traditional gospel sound.”

Moreland chose 10 Stage Zoom 1200 moving heads and six Alpha Spot HPE 700s to fill the space at the church.  “It’s a full arena-size room, so I needed fixtures that were bright and had a great zoom,” he says.  “I needed nice long beams but also wanted them to zoom out really wide.”

Moreland was “very impressed” with the Clay Paky fixtures’ performance. “They were great.  It was my first time using the reliable 1200s, too.  They did exactly what I needed them to do.” The Clay Pakys rounded out a full-automated lighting rig controlled by a grandMA console.

Ken Johnson was the production manager for the project and Josh Beard and Jonathan Woelfel the lighting technicians.

A.C.T Lighting is the distributor for Clay Paky in North America.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, adds, “It’s an honor that our lights were chosen for this important event/DVD.  Matt Moreland is a great designer and he’s done an awesome job with our lights on this project.”
