South Africa – Clay Paky’s lightweight yet powerful Sharpy fixtures have proven just the ticket for a glamorous Spring Ball held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In addition to supplying the entertainment technology Paul Hughes of AVL Productions, Johannesburg designed the set and AV content. He worked with lighting designer Christopher Bolton from Keystone Productions who lit the event – a banquet held by Johannesburg based technical solutions company EOH for its staff and clients.

“I chose to use the Clay Paky Sharpys because the point source is so small yet the beam travelled right through the venue, creating some incredible mid air effects over the audience. The trussing above the stage was 11m off the ground above a 16m x 4m screen. The ClayPaky Sharpys were positioned to shine just over the audience’s heads and were selectively used for the chorus and on the big builds. They looks they create are really powerful and the dichroic colours in the fixture are fantastic, even at lower intensities the optics are incredible with deep saturations across the whole spectrum.”

The party - which took place at Sandton Convention Centre’s Pavilion Venue, Sandton, Johannesburg – included a concert featuring the songs of Queen while master of ceremonies was South African Idols judge, Randall Abraham.

AVL Productions’ provided the AV content, which played a leading role in the show. “Paul and I discussed different looks and AV Content. As the show ran with all the tracks back-to-back Paul and I decided to create a specific video file for each track, which I then streamed into my Visualizer. I then programmed all the lights, colours and gobo’s to match the overall look and feel of the AV. Once again the colour and gobo options from the Sharpys worked like a charm.”
