The idea of a six-day track cycling race was conceived in 1875 in Birmingham, England. The event was designed at the time as a "product test" for bicycles. Over the decades, the six-day race has grown from a test into its present form. For instance, until the 1960s, it was actually customary to race for six consecutive days non stop.

Because of the great fatigue the cyclists underwent, the races are today only held in the evening, as in the recent "Bremen Six Day", which has now taken place 48 times. AVM Event GmbH was not only responsible for the audio and rigging at this event, but also for the lighting equipment. They relied on Clay Paky and MA Lighting products, among others.

AVM installed 4 Clay Paky Sharpys, 32 Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 700s, 1 full-size grandMA and 1 MA Network Processing Unit (NPU) in building 1 at the ÖVB Arena, Bremen.

Jens Wiegandt, AVM's managing director, explained why his company chose this material: "We wanted to use the material to bring an element of drama to the event, like in a boxing match. We also did not want to illuminate the building with 'just white', but to create a warm lounge-like atmosphere, where the audience felt at home."

The project director, Marko Drews, was also very happy with the material used. "We do not have much to say about grandMA consoles. We have been using them for years and have never had any problems." The four Clay Paky Sharpys, which were placed at the four corners of the inner area, also received special attention. "The beam is really impressive, and the speed of this moving head is quite something too," said Drews.

Jens Wiegandt added: "We have been working with Lightpower for years and their customer service is simply unbeatable. Everything went flawlessly for the whole time and every request was met quickly and promptly."
