From 13 January to 16 Mach 2003 the exhibition entitled “Renoir and the light of Impressionism” was opened in the new exhibition rooms of the Musei del Canal Grande of Trieste, at Palazzo Gopcevic. The exhibition, which was organised by Maïthé Valles-Bled and Vincenzo Sanfo, was conceived and created by New York Masters Exhibitions of Rome and Nuova Tavolozza Eventi of Palermo. After an initial showing at Palazzo dei Normanni in Palermo, the exhibition was then accommodated at the Fondazione Mazzotta, then – up to 8the January 2003 – in the Sala della Regina at Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome, and finally in Trieste. The exhibition embraces 30 paintings and another 30 works including gouaches, pencil drawings and sculptures originating both from leading international Museums, and from institutions and large private collections in France, United States, Italy, England and Switzerland.

To draw attention to this extraordinary event, Allestimenti & Co., jointly with the Altair company, used a V.I.P. 1200 Clay Paky to project the name of the renowned artist on the façade of Palazzo Gopcevic. A 150 mm lens and dichroic gobo were used to project. The latter is particularly suitable to obtain high precision wording, an essential aspect when the projected image is so large: any minimum flaw in the filter would be noticed immediately. The exhibition’s logo – showing the artist’s actual signature – projected at a distance of almost 50 metres, was perfectly clear and bright, making a big impact on the walls of the historic building.

“The projection of the “Renoir” wording” satisfied several purposes: – stated Pietro Tondello of Altair, distributor of Clay Paky products for Triveneto – “to give an original welcome to the thousands of visitors from every corner of the world, draw their attention and guide them inside the building, thanks to the projection which could be seen from as far as several hundreds of meters. Not only that, we wanted to show how technology – lighting in this case – can provide a fundamental contribution to promote, make the most of, and beautify our cities, without using enormous panels which often hide and even spoil historic palaces and public places, as well as creating some serious positioning and installation problems.

Mariella Corzani of Allestimenti & Co., echoed his words. She was in charge of fitting up the exhibition and using the projector outdoors. “V.I.P. 1200 solved all problems linked to the fact that no fixed structure could be installed on the façade of Palazzo Gopcevic, as the building is part of the Italian state’s Cultural Property. Use of luminous projections is fairly new for events decoration, and offer highly versatile use possibilities, which we are looking to repeat in the future: for example, with V.I.P. 1200 you can promote, signal, and inform in an elegant, practical and economic way, and, when the event closes, all you have to do is switch off the projector. But you can use it again whenever you have to project a brand, words, or a picture” – the only additional production cost being a new gobo.
