Sharpy, the award-winning, narrow-beamed moving spotlight launched earlier this year is paving the way for exciting new lighting concepts on the Scandinavian television scene. The Norwegian rental company Rubicon has provided NRK with 12 Sharpy units for their new Friday night musical game show, Popstokk, which is already making waves among the country’s other show creators.
Senior lighting designer Tore Rødseth at NRK was enthusiastic about the new spotlight: “Sharpy is the most amazing fixture I’ve ever seen and used. Such an incredible beam!”
Popstokk is NRK’s new Friday night family show concept and the spotlight is tightly integrated into the show design where glowing stripes and beams play a central role.
Nikolai Perminow, Marketing Director at Rubicon commented on Rubicon’s interest in the fixture: “As Norway’s leading rental provider of Clay Paky Spots we found it natural to have a closer look at the Sharpy. We were simply amazed by the tiny size of the spotlight in contrast to its incredible output. I am sure this represents a peek into the future of fixture design and although we are very happy to debut Sharpy together with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, we are already noticing considerable interest from other TV producers.”
Sharpy produces a laser-like, halo-free beam with a brightness usually associated with far higher lamp wattages. Weighing just 16 kg with a lamp of only 189W, Sharpy gives designers possibilities that previously only much larger and more expensive spotlights could hope to achieve. The secret is a new optical design capable of delivering a crisp, sharp, zero-degree beam – free of any fuzz or discolouration around the edges.
