Italy – The fifth TorMeo grass volleyball tournament was held in Porto Recanati (Macerata) on 26 and 27 July last. This brainchild of former Italian national volleyball team member Marco Meoni was promoted by the local town council and the Porto Recanati Tourist Office, and sponsored by Clay Paky.
This year the event consisted of a four-player mixed open tournament contested on grass courts, and each team was allowed to count on a maximum of six players. For the last two years, TorMeo has also included a sitting volleyball match. This event has helped to promote this kind of volleyball internationally. Due to its unique characteristics, sitting volleyball is able to foster the social integration of people with disabilities.
Besides the tournament itself, this year’s event stood out again for the interesting sideshows, including on-court entertainment, beach parties, a Welcome Fluo Party and a 2014 Aperol Spritz Orange Sensation Tour evening with live music on a stage equipped with Clay Paky lights.
Pio Nahum, Clay Paky Sales and Marketing Manager, said: “our company has always been close to the world of sports. All the greatest world sporting events have used Clay Paky lights, such as the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi and the summer games in London in 2012. Sponsoring sporting events such as TorMeo is also a way of saying ‘thank you’ to this world.”
