The lights of Clay Paky bore witness to the coronation of Miss and Mr Switzerland in occasion of two separate events, which occurred between 2005 and 2006.

The first of these, the crowning of MISS SWITZERLAND, took place at Locarno’s Palazetto Fevi in September 2005. The event obtained the usual nationwide success, being one of the events most followed by Swiss television networks. This edition enjoyed the presence of artists of international renown, among which Simply Red and Nek.

The director of Photography, Giorgio Marioni chose an illumination of a certain impact, one which would play a central role in the show: The scenography consisted in a series of largepieces of canvas on the backdrop to the stage, which were illuminated on the front with colours and from behind with effects. These ‘coloured sails’ accompanied the musical acts while functioning as ‘photographic’ backdrops to the contestants of the pageant. The coloured, entwined and amplified rendition of the effects, obtained assured results both Live and on the small screen.

The lighting equipment was exclusively composed of Clay Paky materials, including over 150 moving head projectors, richly equipped with lights ranging from the classic 300W lamps to the most powerful 1200W lamps (see the list below).

The supply and installation of the audio-lighting materials was catered by EMME, the largest service company of Clay Paky products in all of Switzerland.

The pageant for MR SWITZERLAND took place at Chiasso, and among the important guests who stood out here were Gianna Nannini, Gotthard and Sascha.

The director of photography Carlo Genel came up with a modular scenography in wood, attached to which were backlit PVC panels. Unlike the Miss Switzerland scenography, the backlighting had been studied only for the colour changers, with the aim of creating an almost ‘theatrical’ lighting effect in support of the stage.

A total of 180 Clay Paky projectors were employed, among which moving head projectors, scanners, and fixed colour changers.

Michele Alvarez, Manager of Emme and lighting designer of both pageants, describes the products used for the event: “We had to respond to requirements that would satisfy both Live and televised aspects of the event.Decisions concerning the scenography and choice of lighting were made in an attempt to integrate both illumination/technical needs. The lighting design included a great variety of products both in type and power. According to requirement, projectors were used for aspects of pure illumination, both static and dynamic. Together with the directors of photography, I studied a few solutions for which the lighting was to be employed, including the backlit panels or the large sails. In an international event that combines fashion, music and costume and where “aesthetics” play a fundamental role, the lighting also has to be at its best”.

Both events were broadcast Live at a national level by TSI Televisione della Svizzera Italiana.
