Hot on the heels of its first win in London, Clay Paky’s Sharpy has earned a second win at LDI in Las Vegas. Clay Paky’s new beam light earned an honourable mention in the category Best Debuting Product at the awards ceremony held on October 24 2010.

The award comes just one month after the Sharpy won a PLASA Award for Innovation in London – along with the enthusiastic approval of judges who said, “We never thought we’d see a 190W light that we could use in Wembley Arena.”

Due for release in December 2010, the Sharpy impressed visitors with its sharply defined, zero-degree beam of light – a distinctive new look that is destined to make an instant impact on stages and shows around the world. The breakthrough concept produces a stadium-sized beam from a miniature package weighing just 16 kg.

Pio Nahum, Clay Paky Commercial Director, expressed his delight at receiving the awards: “To win recognition in both Europe and the US is confirmation of the buzz we felt on the floor. There was interest in all our products at LDI, but the enthusiasm shown by designers for the Sharpy and the Shotlight has been quite exceptional. We are already receiving enquiries for delivery, and designers are already planning to use the Sharpy in their upcoming shows.”

The Sharpy employs a 190W source to create a level of brightness usually associated with a 1500W luminaire. “Technologically speaking, we’ve shown the industry that innovation doesn’t necessarily have to come in the form of LED. There’s still plenty of scope for innovation using conventional means. The Sharpy shows that by re-imagining a 190W light source, we can turn it into an incredibly attractive package and a highly effective instrument for large shows and arenas”.
