The “Outside Festival” was one of this year’s most important international pop festivals and was held from the 9th to 11th July in the Dielsdorf hippodrome on the outskirts of Zurich. Big names were there such as Eros Ramazzotti, Rasmus, Aventura, Vonda Shepard, Heather Nova and The Wailers (Bob Marley’s legendary band).
The stage was designed and installed by Audio-Rent Clair-Brothers AG from Aesch, whose Lighting Director Jürg Gallmann was responsible for the lighting system. Each performer’s lighting designer had just a few hours to add the finishing touches to their show.
Eros Ramazzotti’s performance was certainly the Festival’s main attraction: the Italian singer brought along his entire technical and design team, including Lighting Designer Nancy Mongrain who has 12 years’ experience with Lortie Design Lumiere Inc.
One of the two main stages featured ALPHA SPOT HPE, Clay Paky’s new 575W moving body effects projectors, which have already met with a huge success on the international scene in Zurich.
Alpha Spot HPE is a projector only worthy of Clay Paky: it is light, practical and silent, with the same high luminosity as 1200W projectors. It also features a 10°-40° linear zoom, the “total” color system based on CMY color mixing with a 7-color wheel, 3 gobo wheels including 2 rotating gobos, an animation disc, rotating prisms and high-tech dimmer. All these produce extra special effects which make Alpha Spot HPE the most complete 575W spotlight on the market.
The stage was framed by 2 large black curtains which widened the stage for the audience and blocked off backstage. Three huge concentric semi-circular battens on the upper wall were installed with 58 Clay Paky washlights and effects projectors. The set design was simple and perfectly balanced with the elaborate array of lights, as directed by set designer Ronald Widuch.
Looking back at the three days of the Festival, Eros Ramazzotti’s performance was undoubtedly met with a huge international success. The Outside Festival has only celebrated its first year, yet it already plays host to top performers, with high quality technological support and a huge audience, in an area which is easily accessible by train or car – in only the best Swiss tradition.
